A federal grand jury has indicted Milwaukee County Judge Hannah Dugan over allegations she tried to help an undocumented immigrant escape arrest at her courtroom.

As Dugan's hearing approaches, litigators, judges and academics are talking about the implications of the case for the judiciary and what road map—if any—the case may provide as the Donald Trump administration continues its crackdown on illegal immigration and attacks on judges and law firms.

Ruiz, who is at the center of a federal case against Milwaukee County Circuit Judge Hannah Dugan, had two hearings on May 8.
