Boston Celtics star Jayson Tatum suffered a torn right Achilles tendon during Monday night's playoff loss to the Knicks, the team announced Tuesday. Tatum has already reportedly undergone surgery, and though an exact timetable for his return is not immediately clear, he is expected to miss a significant portion, if not all, of next season.

Orthopedic surgeons call Achilles' tears some of the most difficult injuries an athlete can sustain, and recovery can take longer for pro athletes.

The Boston Celtics are still awaiting official word on Jayson Tatum's injury suffered in Game 4 of the Eastern Conference semifinals against the New York Knicks, but early indications are they aren't expecting good news.
