Kentucky was hardest hit as storms swept through parts of the Midwest and South and killed more than two dozen people.

The storms were part of a weather system on Friday that killed 19 people in Kentucky, seven in Missouri and at least one person in Virginia.

We are hard at work this morning addressing the tragic damage and deaths caused by severe weather,” Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear said.

At least 27 people were reported dead across several states in an expansive outbreak of severe weather from the Heartland to the East Coast.

St. Louisans, particularly in North City, were facing the daunting task of recovery from the storm's devastation, many without power and few resources.
